Dallas, TX (PRWEB) December 06, 2011

CardsDirect, LLC (http://www.CardsDirect.com), the online leader in custom printed greeting cards is pleased to sponsor a giant sized holiday card honoring our service men and women. Presented on Veteran’s Day, the card is displayed at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Texas for visitors to sign. Returning troops will be able to read the thoughtful messages as they begin their well-earned days of rest and relaxation.

This year’s card is eight feet tall by 12 feet wide and is placed in a metal frame and available for all to sign in the Terminal B military arrival area at the DFW Airport. Friends, family members and anyone passing through the terminal are encouraged to add special messages for our troops. The three-panel card has plenty of room for all kinds of special messages on the front and back of the giant card that features a patriotic graphic design and message of thanks for the freedom these service members insure for all of us.

“The holidays can be stressful times for our service men and women and their friends and families. We hope the messages shared on these giant holiday cards will bring a bit of happiness to those who defend our freedoms,” says Ward Mahowald, CEO of CardsDirect.com.

CardsDirect also sponsored a “Texas Sized Holiday Card” last holiday season. This super-sized card is now covered with signatures and comments and with the help of the USO, is currently displayed in the military check-in area for departing troops to enjoy.

Offering a full line of patriotic holiday cards, thank you cards, Christmas cards and invitations that include American flags, designs in red, white and blue and patriotic ornaments and Christmas trees, CardsDirect is a proud supporter of our troops. CardsDirect has also provided boxed thank you cards for “Operation Shower” (http://www.OperationShower.org), a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide joyful baby showers for military families to ease the burden of deployment.

To further support our troops, CardsDirect has partnered with “For the Troops” (http://www.forthetroops.org), a volunteer non-profit organization that provides care packages to our troops. A portion of the proceeds of card orders placed through a dedicated web page is donated to this organization. In addition, CardsDirect has furnished holiday cards for this and many organizations that arrange for them to be signed and sent overseas to our troops.

Join CardsDirect in honoring our service men and women by adding your comment to the giant holiday card for the troops and by sending patriotic holiday cards to those serving our country.

(PRWEB) November 20, 2011

‘Tis almost the season! The time for holidays, traveling, family get-togethers and gift giving is right around the corner. Though the holidays are a hectic time for everyone, they are especially stressful for family and friends of children with Autism. The holiday season should be spent creating memories, celebrating tradition and spreading the love among family and friends. However, for families of children with Autism, these three months can be exhausting. Aside from the common stressors that the holidays may bring, parents find that traveling with children with Autism can be the biggest stress of all. The ELIJA School has recognized the need for holiday travel tips for parents, friends and families of children with Autism. With the help of the ELIJA Foundation Founder and ELIJA School Director, Debora Harris, ELIJA has provided the following holiday travel tips in the hopes of creating a more enjoyable holiday experience. Happy holidays!

1. Destination Preparation

Start preparing your child early on by showing them images of the destination you will be traveling to and the home/hotel you will be staying at. Walk through the itinerary with your child ahead of time – where you will be going, what you will be doing and who will be in attendance. Building up the excitement for the departure date will help prepare your child – create a countdown on the refrigerator and get your child involved by allowing him/her to mark off a number each day.

2. Pleasant Plane

If traveling by plane, think about doing a trial run first. Some airports will allow you to come in before your departure date and walk through the security line while explaining each step to your child. Contact your local airport and explain your situation to see what they can do to best accommodate you and your child. Also, notifying the flight attendants of your child’s needs could be useful. Be sure to have snacks, books, a DVD player, building blocks, etc. to help pass the time and keep your child entertained during the flight. ELIJA parent, Jennica Nill whose son Dustin attends The ELIJA School, suggests meeting with your family pediatrician or a psychiatrist before your travel date to discuss possible emergency medication options. Be sure to do a test run on the medication before the day of travel incase of any bad reactions. Jennica also suggests booking your seats toward the back of the plane to ensure easier access to the restroom.

3. Long Car Rides

For car rides that may be three hours or longer, it’s best to travel early in the morning or late at night so that your child is more likely to sleep for a majority of your travel time. Be sure to dress your child comfortably and bring along familiar items like their favorite snacks, a blanket/pillow from their room, coloring books, etc. If possible, a portable DVD player could be great entertainment and an easy way to pass the time.

4. Hotel

Baby steps are key in changing up your regular nightly routines in an unfamiliar hotel room. Start out by renting a room nearby before your actual vacation date or have them sleep in a different room in your home. Having adjoining rooms and taking along familiar items like your child’s pillow and blanket may make for a smoother transition. The more you keep to your normal routines, the easier the adjustment will be. Like most children, Jennica’s son Dustin loves to swim. When looking for hotels, she suggests making sure that there is an indoor pool or hot tub that will be open during your stay. This is a fun activity that will make your child see how fun hotels can actually be and will create a positive experience.

5. Family/Friends House

If your holiday celebrations are taking place at a family or friends house, no need to stress! There are many easy ways to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone. Preparation is key. Showing your child pictures of the home, the room they will be staying in and the relatives they will be visiting is a great way to mentally prepare your child. Also, if a sit-down formal holiday dinner is going to take place, try setting your kitchen table for a nice dinner and walk your child through what they should expect. A few days ahead of time, make sure that you prepare a list of toys, games, food and snacks that your child will eat. For example, Jennica’s son Dustin loves playing on his laptop computer. If your child loves the computer, she suggests that you make sure Internet connection is accessible. If not, Jennica says to consider getting a pay-per-use Internet plan. Also, be sure to call your friends and family members ahead of time and provide them with useful tips. Most parents of children with Autism may need to sit alongside their child. For holiday dinners, many families set up a “kids” table and an “adults” table. You may have to let the host/hostess know in advance that you may want to sit with your child. Let the other guests know that they should not feel offended if you have to leave the table often and to put your child as close to the “adults” table as possible.

For those not enrolled in The ELIJA School, ELIJA has launched an outreach program, which provides support, education, and training to parents, family members, caregivers and professionals. ELIJA conducts private consultations within and outside of the school’s community. ELIJA also hosts a regular workshop series at the school in the evenings.
1001BestWays.com announces that it asked its readers for their Best Ways To Raise Children. From the hundreds of wonderful ideas submitted came these 25.

“If you ask enough people, you’re bound to get the right answer sooner or later.” That’s the thinking behind 1001BestWays.com, which publishes its readers’ Best Ways to raise children, save money, advance a career, fall in love, stay in love, and more.

Their unedited responses are read daily by over 15,000 Twitter followers (@1001BestWays), the readers of 1001BestWays.com, and the buyers of the book series.

“1001 Best Ways is the lifetime experiences of hundreds and thousands of people.”, says publisher Paul Angles, “Every day, I am humbled by the collective wisdom people so willingly share.”

Just Talk.

Spend time with kids on weekdays and weekends. Talk to your kids about everything good or bad it reall makes a big difference if they feel like they can come to you for anything.

Saying “No!” to “No!”

One of the best secrets I have for raising kids is limiting “no’s”. The more you childproof your home, the fewer “no’s” need to be said. Children who can freely explore their world develop into fuller, curious, and intelligent beings. A “no” holds back a child.

Just Listen.

There is only one thing that parents need to do to raise good kids. Parents need to listen. Listening to your children is so very important. It opens the lines of communication and trust between parent and child. In many situations, the only thing a child wants is to be heard. As a parent if we listen to our children we gain the ability to help guide them. The only way to understand a child is to hear what they have to say about a situation.

Be An Example Because You Already Are.

My best secret for raising kids is to always be aware that you are the most likely example they will learn behavior from and imitate it in their own relationships later in life. It is really important to me that my children develop compassion for fellow humans that are less fortunate than they are. Thus, I introduced my children to volunteer work such as at a food bank and a wildlife sanctuary. I hope that my example will teach them to be a compassionate person who is good to the people and animals around him or her.

Give Them Choices.

Being a dad of a young child, you need to find things that work for YOUR child, as all children are unique. The one tried and true secret that works for my four year old is giving him choices. Telling a child what to do or what to eat does not always work in certain situations, but if you give them a choice, they feel like they are in charge and feel more independent and are less likely to resist what you are asking.

Teach Respect For The Work Of Others.

My secret for raising well-behaved children is to teach them respect for other individuals, typically by describing the work my children see them doing or even having them help out with the work. I remember my mother asking me to help the filling station attendant check the oil in our family car; simple requests like these gave me a sense of responsibility, triggered my curiosity, and taught me to appreciate the work other people do to keep our lives going. When children respect the people around them and are curious about what they do, they are less focused on their own wants and needs (usually wants). Hopefully, this will lead them to be kinder, more compassionate, more socially-conscious adults one day, too.

Let Them Be Kids.

They’re going to get dirty, get in trouble, make mistakes – but it’s all a part of growing up. Let them be, and encourage them to do what their hearts tell them to… And be ready to cheer them on, or give them a big hug and comfort them when they need it.

Punish Early.

My method is to punish them when they’re real little. If you teach them to fear you when there little they will always listen to you.

See Through Their Eyes.

Listen to your kids. Try to see the world through their eyes. That way, you will better understand their motives and behavior.

Honestly, Tell The Truth.

Be honest. Do not lie to your child to cover something up, losing their trust is not worth it. No matter what it is.

Read To Them.

My best secret for raising kids is to read to them. Expose children to a variety of literature and genres and spend time reading with them one on one.

Be An Angel. A Guardian Angel.

The best thing that I can tell any parent about parenting is remember that you are your child’s guidance not a dictator. Think of parenting as being a guardian angel. You want to guide them the right way, whispering in their ears words of love and wisdom, giving them enough space to make mistakes and learn on their own. Molding of these beautiful little puddles of clay will take time and patience as well!

Teach Traditions And Ethics.

What I am teaching for my 9 year and 5 year boys is the value of our tradition and ethics, the way to behave as a person, how to help others if anyone needs it. I think once they learn about all these, they will be great in their future. Apart of these treat every living thing as a god.

Raise Them With All Your Heart

Raise them with all your heart. Show you care and pay attention to them. If you wanted, spoil them, they’ll stay close.

Routine. Routine. Routine.

The secret to well behaved kids is routine. You must have a regular routine for sleep, school work and playtime. If they know what to expect day to day it makes better behaved.

Be Open. Be Honest.

the key is to be open with them. whether its about the facts of life or drugs, or anything that they may need to learn but may also be a little awkward, simple be honest, if you have experience say so, if you don’t also say so. and realize that they might not reach the same moral conclusions you did.

Open Your Ears.

There is one secret for raising kids – LISTEN. Take the time to open your ears and hear what a child is saying before you react. This will allow you to teach your child many things, including making the right choices.

Responding To Praise And Attention.

Children respond well to praise and are very competitive for attention. When one is naughty, praise another child nearby who is behaving well and the naughty one will start acting better. Also, to prompt better behavior, I say, “I like the way you are…” (even when the child isn’t). Soon the child will start asking, “Do you like the way I am…”.

Be Patient.

Patience is key. Kids have alot of energy so they get into alot of things. Remember when your trying to get them under control to stop, breathe, and remember to be patient. Learning good behavior is a process.

Follow the Bible.

I discipline them with strictness and love just like what the bible described in disciplining a child. I always have time for them even if i am working i still spend as much time as i can. And i always teach them about good things on how to treat other people. And i am always there for them when they need me.

Imagination Without Pressure.

Pressuring and bribing your children to succeed is poisonous and can have disasterous results. The best way to raise well behaved, thoughtful and smart children is to encourage their imagination and to turn off all of the video games for two hours a day and encourage day dreaming. That’s what I did for my two boys and they have the most friends, and get the highest grades all on their own. It’s very healthy for them.

Survey Seniors.

I took a survey of 40 parents ages 65-90. I asked what was the most important point of parenting advice they could offer me, a new parent. Overwhelmingly, the majority of them said that I should LISTEN to my children.

Creative Expression.

Find ways of allowing your children to creatively express themselves. Even if it is just daydreaming, a child expressing themselves is therapeutic for the mind. On the same note, don’t medicate as a crutch. A rideroled child may grow up to be an excellent accountant, but the same child without the ridalin may have been the next great musician of their time.

Learn To Swaddle.

A great way to ensure that your child gets plenty of sleep and you do also as a parent is to be aware of special calming techniques. Wrapping your baby tightly in a blanket or “swaddling” a baby can really make a difference in terms of how much your baby cries each day. By swaddling and rocking a baby they will feel as if they are back in the womb and will almost always relax.

Rescue Animals To Teach Nurturing.

Animals are my secret! I rescue, foster and rehome many different types of animals. All requiring care, some medical. This has taught my kids how to care and nurture. How to be kind to nature and everything in its place. This has taught them kindness. They dont want to get in trouble because they will not be able to help me work with the animals that day. Give your child a caring heart. Teach them respect and to love. This has given me very “free spirited” children.

The Story of 1001 Best Ways

Paul Angles, an Internet Marketing Director, was driving home from work, stuck in traffic, and thinking about ways to cut back on the family budget, when he heard a commercial for an Internet Service Provider–his Internet Service Provider!–offering new subscribers $ 20 off per month for the first year.

Suddenly inspired, he called them and asked for the new subscriber rate. He was promptly turned down. Undeterred, he asked the operator if he could cancel his account and restart it at the new rate. That did the trick. With less than 5 minutes work, he saved $ 240 without having to cut back on anything.

It was so much fun saving so much money that he began to wonder who else he could call. And which of his friends he could tell. And what ideas they might have. And how there ought to be a website that collected those great ideas and made them available.

Soon, he created 1001BestWays.com and began collecting Best Ways by the hundreds, posting them hourly on the website, tweeting them, and finally, collecting them into a series of books available in Kindle and in paperback on Amazon.com, BN.com, and many others. 1001 Best Ways, Volume 4, is scheduled for release in November 2011.

(PRWEB UK) 27 October 2011

ChiQi is a baby comforter with a difference. Each beautifully designed organic cotton product contains a small energy disk called a bioDOT*. BioDOTs hold and continuously emit a soothing natural energy vibration. This supports the baby’s own energy field which is far more vulnerable to the effects of the high tech wi-FI world around it.

Signals from mobile and cordless phones, computers, baby monitors and wi-Fi are known to compromise the energy field and stress our bodies. Scientists are increasingly concerned about their harmful effects on our long-term health.

ChiQi products offer continuous relief from exposure to these signals (electromagnetic radiation). Keeping ChiQi close, the baby will experience effects similar to an adult wearing a bioDOT – improved sleep, a sense of calm and greater resilience in today’s challenging environment.

ChiQi is presented in the shape of a little Egyptian cat. Phi harmonics are producing a series of stories about the adventures in the magical world of ChiQi which will be available to buyers to read to their children.

The energyDOT range is the result of ten years research and development by Phi harmonics Ltd. Charles Caudle, Director, points out that, “Although this can help anyone using a mobile phone, one of our major goals is to offer protection to the ‘passive smokers’ in all of this – our children.” Although an electroDOT gives protection from mobile phone frequencies, a baby is surrounded by radiation from many sources – wireless phones, wiFi routers, microwave ovens, baby monitors and so on – and the bioDOT in ChiQi will help harmonise all these frequencies with the baby’s individual biofield.

ChiQi is depicted on Stand D52 at the Baby Show for Trade at Olympia from 16-18 October 2011. She will be in full production from January 2012.

For more information and to understand better how energyDOTs – and ChiQi – work,

please call Lucy on 01803 782008/07877 416429 or email lucy(at)phiharmonics(dot)com. She will be on the stand throughout the exhibition.

It starts the day you bring your newborn home…

Every parent wants to make sure they provide for their child the best they can. Every day of their young lives. But infants don’t come home from the hospital with a manual.

Loving your child is the easy part. Making sure you raise them to the best of your ability is not. When every person you turn to has an opinion about where to put your baby’s cradle, to listen to their crying or to ignore it…

…when to expect your child

Shopping for a convertible baby bed? know that some assembly will be required. At first, buying a convertible crib can be an expensive investment. Yet, when you count the days, weeks and years your child sleeps soundly, it is priceless. Why is that? The reason is that when your baby grows into a toddler, you can turn the crib into a toddler bed.

Why Assemble a Convertible Baby Bed?

After you buy a bed in a retail store or on-line, the company does not ship a fully assembled crib to your front door. The store will ship the bed to you in parts that you simply put together. This format saves you money in shipping, since a compact box is much cheaper to ship than a full-size crib.

The box you receive will be much simpler to move into your baby’s bedroom. It will fit through the doorway, while a free standing convertible crib will not. Understand that assembling a crib saves you money in shipping and handling. So, what do you need to get ready to assemble the bed when it arrives?

The Important Three Things for Assembling Your Baby’s Bed

Remember, you will be assembling your baby’s new bed in the baby’s room or nursery in your house. To put the bed together quickly and easily, without redoing the assembly process, make sure to have these things on hand.

Instructions

- Illustrated, step by step instructions

- Any videos provided by the manufacturer or dealer

- A visual of assembled crib

Space

- Enough floor space in the bedroom so that you can assemble the bed and move it to the desired spot

- Place to lay out all of the parts including the sides, foot, and head of the bed, the mattress frame

- Count the parts to make sure you have everything. Check your list of parts against the instructions and hardware part list.

- Use Post It Notes to mark each part with the same labels in the instructions.

Tools

- Recommended tools by the manufacturer, including screwdrivers, an allen wrench, pliers or wrench to tighten the nuts and bolts

- A small rubber hammer or mallet to tap the assembled parts in place. Don’t use a steel hammer on wooden beds, you’ll dent the wood and wreck the finish.

You Are Ready to Put the Bed Together

Read each step of the instruction guide before you begin. Then, before you fasten any bolts or screws, fit the parts together, so you know how they go together. Do Step One and finish it completely before you go on to Step Two. Complete each step in order.

Most convertible cribs have different mattress positions, like low, middle and high. Depending on the size and age of your baby, set the mattress height to fit your baby. Read the instructions for the proper setting. Typically, the younger the child, the higher the mattress setting.

Tighten all screws, nuts and bolts so that the convertible bed is solid and stable..

Now it’s time to test the crib for being sturdy for your baby. Do any of the parts feel loose? Are the sides, headboard and footboard sturdy? Does anything wobble? Do you feel confident that your baby wil be safe in the crib? Remove any gaps between the sides, mattress, and rails that could trap your baby’s head or body.

Assembling a convertible baby bed is easy to do, when you follow these steps. It’s not rocket science. Just remember to read and follow the instructions, have enough space to assemble the bed and use the correct tools for the job. Your child’s new bed will be a haven to sleep securely as she grows up.

Firstly, I think that it is essential to start with the premise that the most important task of parenting isn’t teaching your baby to read. You may think that by ‘teaching’ your baby to read, she will have an “advantage” over other children when she starts school and will thus go on to be a super achiever with a successful career!

No, your most essential task as a new parent (beyond making sure that your baby is fed, clothed and has clean nappy!) is to ensure that your baby experiences a healthy and secure attachment with her parents and/or caregiver. This gives babies much deeper “advantages” in life than whether they learn to read early, which include greater confidence and self-esteem, less anxiety, better relationships with childhood peers and healthier relationships as adults.

So what has this got to do with reading to my baby?

Reading to your baby provides her with endless opportunities to bond with you while enjoying the sound of your voice and the warmth of your cuddle. Books provide vital one-on-one time for you and your baby, sending her the message that you value interacting with her and want to be with her. Reading with your baby is a solid, important and wonderful thing to do. Explicitly teaching her to read is unnecessary and research shows that it can in fact be detrimental.

Babies thrive on being held and spoken to. From the first months of her life, your baby will be comforted and soothed by hearing your voice, so the books you choose should be books that you enjoy reading. Cuddle your baby as you read; she won’t understand what you are reading, but she will recognize the sounds and rhythm of language and to feel that cuddling with you and reading books is a comforting and enjoyable thing to do.

Are there any benefits beyond bonding?

Yes, there are other benefits to reading which can help your baby to develop a life-long love of reading. Through the sound of your voice and the warmth of your body, your baby will come to think of reading as a pleasurable activity.

On an ‘educational’ level, books provide the perfect opportunity for babies and toddlers to learn about speech patterns, phonics and how to make sounds. Every time you read to your baby, you reinforce basic reading concepts, such as turning pages and following text from left to right. There are numerous studies which confirm that reading to babies not only supports speech and language development, but overall intelligence as well. When you read to your baby, you set the stage for a life-long love of reading.

What books should I read to my baby?

Newborns see things best from about 15-20cm away — or the distance from your face to your baby’s while you’re holding her. So it’s best to select books with high-contrast images (black-and-white illustrations) and patterns, for example stripes, dots, and checkers.

The best books for babies emphasize rhythm, rhyme and repetition, such as nursery rhymes and books with patterned language. Books for babies usually have minimal text and have pictures of other people, especially other babies as they recognize facial features and expressions. Your baby will also enjoy seeing familiar objects like cars and toys, or people doing things that they have had some experience with in their daily routine, such as getting dressed or taking bath.

When reading to your baby, it is important to understand that you are doing two things; helping with language acquisition – which is definitely an important developmental task – and bonding with your baby. You are not teaching them to read, which is a neurological and cognitive task, and one which is not developmentally appropriate for a baby or toddler’s brain.

Don’t get “stressed” about what and when you read to your baby or if other parents are doing it more often or ‘better’, the most fundamental task is to create a healthy and secure attachment with her, and reading with her is just one of the many and varied ways that you can achieve this.
